High-performance optical interconnects for HPC and data-center environments

With EMCORE Connects Cables, HPC and data-center OEMs, integrators, and users can now:
  • Build larger clusters with up to 20 Gbps data rates
  • Design computing clusters and facilities based on compute and storage needs instead of the limitations of shorter copper cables
  • Enable better facility airflow, potentially lowering cooling costs
  • Reduce equipment installation and maintenance costs

EMCORE Connects Cables: Faster, longer, lighter and thinner

With less bulk and lower weight than 24 AWG copper, these cables are easier to install and maintain than copper cable.

20 Gbps at distances up to 100 meters

EMCORE Connects Cables have four 5 Gbps lanes in each direction, 20 Gbps bidirectional at up to 100 meters giving you the design freedom you need to build larger clusters, aggregate compute, storage or switch modules, or fit clusters into restricted or multi-level spaces. EMCORE Connects Cables support both SDR and those 10GbE CX4 installations that have power available in the CX4 socket.

Low, 10-15 bit error rate and low 0.5 nanosecond latency for increased reliability

Bit error rate (BER) is a cause of performance and reliability problems in high-performance clusters. Many copper cables are only specified for a BER of 10-12, a BER that is a thousand times worse than an EMCORE Connects Cable. A cluster with 1000 cables at a BER of 10-12 would have almost one and three-quarters million bit errors per day from the cables alone. With EMCORE Connects Cables, the BER is dramatically reduced to less than 1750 per day.

Scales don't lie: 84 percent less weight and 83 percent less volume than copper cables¹

Fiber Cable Weight vs. Copper Cable

Ultra low-weight EMCORE Connects Cables mean less stress on floors, racks, connectors, and pins that can lead to duster failures. The small cross section of EMCORE Connects Cables can result in better airflow and fewer duster hot spots.

Smaller bend radius, shorter connectors, easier installation

Fiber Cable Bend Radius vs. Copper Cable

The short connector length and the flexible bend radius of EMCORE Connects Cables is 40 percent less¹ than that of the 24 AWG copper cables, making EMCORE Connects Cables easier to install and maintain without straining server connectors or interfering with neighboring cables. The shorter connectors also make it possible to close cabinet doors and achieve better airflow in applicable situations.
